Kaalo Calendar

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

Kaalo is built to respect your privacy. This policy explains, in plain language, how the Kaalo Android app and the kaalo.in website handle data. Please read it carefully.

Overview

Your personal content — reminders, birthdays, anniversaries and settings — is stored only on your device and is never uploaded to our servers. We do not have accounts or sign-in, and we cannot see your reminders.

To help us understand how the app is used and to improve it, the app uses Google Analytics for Firebase, which collects limited, non-identifying usage and device information. The app also connects to our server to fetch the latest festival, holiday and panchang updates. Details are below.

Data stored on your device (never uploaded)

Everything you create in the app — reminders, birthdays, anniversaries, favourites and settings — is stored locally on your device only. We do not collect, transmit or store this personal content on our servers. There is no account and no sign-in.

Analytics data we collect

The app uses Google Analytics for Firebase (a Google service) to help us understand overall usage and improve Kaalo. This collects, automatically:

  • App usage and interactions — which screens are viewed, features used, session frequency and duration (in aggregate).
  • Device and technical information — device model, operating system version, app version, language and region settings, and crash/diagnostic data.
  • Approximate location — a coarse, city/region-level estimate derived from your IP address (not precise GPS location).
  • A device/app-instance identifier — a Google Analytics identifier used to count unique installations and understand retention. Depending on your device settings, this may include the Android Advertising ID.

This information is processed by Google as our analytics provider and is transmitted securely (encrypted in transit via TLS). We use it only to understand usage trends and improve the app. We do not use it to identify you personally, and we do not sell it.

You can limit advertising-ID-based tracking in your device settings (Settings → Privacy → Ads → Reset/Delete advertising ID, or “Opt out of Ads Personalisation”), and you can review Google's practices in the Google Privacy Policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

Network connections (calendar updates)

Kaalo works offline for day-to-day use — festival, holiday and panchang data ships inside the app. To keep dates and content accurate, the app periodically connects to our server (api.kaalo.in) to download the latest calendar updates. These requests transmit standard technical information (such as your IP address and app/data version) needed to serve the update; they do not include your reminders or personal content.

Website (kaalo.in)

Our website uses Google Analytics (via Google Tag Manager) to measure traffic and improve the site. This collects standard analytics information such as pages visited, approximate location, device/browser type and similar usage data. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we store the email address you provide solely to send you festival and vrat reminders; you can unsubscribe at any time.

Permissions (app)

Kaalo requests the notification permission so it can remind you about festivals, vrats and your personal reminders. It requests internet access to fetch calendar updates and for analytics. It does not request access to your contacts, precise location, camera, microphone, or storage beyond its own app data.

Data sharing

We do not sell your data. Analytics data is processed by Google as our service provider under Google's terms. We do not share your personal content (reminders, etc.) with anyone, because it never leaves your device.

Data retention and deletion

Personal content stays on your device and is removed when you uninstall the app or clear the app's data from your phone's settings. Analytics data is retained by Google according to our configured retention settings and Google's policies. For questions about analytics data, contact us using the details below.

Children

Kaalo is a general-audience calendar app and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The analytics data described above is non-identifying usage/device information.

Changes to this policy

If our data practices change, we will update this policy before releasing the change, and note it in the app's update notes and here (with a new “last updated” date).
