About Diwali (Lakshmi Puja)
Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is one of the most important Hindu festivals, celebrated as the Festival of Lights. It symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. The festival is observed on the Amavasya (New Moon) of the Hindu month of Kartik. People celebrate Diwali by decorating their homes with diyas, rangoli, flowers, and lights, performing Lakshmi Puja, exchanging sweets and gifts, and spending time with family and friends. It is considered a festival of prosperity, happiness, and new beginnings.
Significance
According to Hindu tradition, Diwali marks the return of Lord Rama, Goddess Sita, and Lord Lakshmana to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile and the victory over Ravana. The people of Ayodhya welcomed them by lighting rows of oil lamps, giving rise to the tradition of celebrating Diwali with lights.
The day is also dedicated to the worship of Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, and Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles. Many businesses begin a new financial year on this auspicious occasion.
Lakshmi Puja
Lakshmi Puja is the most important ritual of Diwali. During the evening, devotees worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha, seeking blessings for prosperity, wisdom, success, and good fortune. Homes and workplaces are illuminated with diyas to welcome positive energy and abundance.
